Patient Revenue Management Organization

Duke University Health System - Patient Revenue Management Office (PRMO) seeks to hire an IT Analyst who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.
General Description of the Job Class:
The IT Analyst serves as a liaison between Professional Billing & Collections (PBC), Duke IT, and supporting vendors. This role provides operational and technical expertise to support claims processing, accounts receivable follow-up, retro review workflows, clearinghouse operations, and Hyland OnBase functionality. Responsibilities include identifying system enhancement opportunities, translating business needs into technical requirements, supporting system implementations, coordinating testing activities, validating system changes, and serving as a subject matter expert on PBC workflows and Epic functionality. The analyst collaborates with operational leadership, IT partners, and vendors to implement system-driven solutions that improve workflow efficiency, claim quality, and revenue cycle performance.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:
Systems Analysis, Liaison, and Optimization
- Serve as a primary liaison between PBC operational teams, Duke IT, and supporting vendors for system enhancements, issue resolution, and operational technology initiatives.
- Analyze workflows and system functionality to identify technology-driven solutions and process improvements within PBC operations.
- Gather, document, and prioritize business requirements for system enhancements, reporting needs, workflow modifications, and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement and optimize solutions supporting claims processing, follow-up activities, retro review processes, and revenue cycle operations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for PBC workflows, Epic functionality, workqueue design, claims processing logic, clearinghouse integrations, and Hyland OnBase processes.
- Support and coordinate operational and system-driven projects, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions.
- Evaluate existing and future Epic functionality to identify opportunities for workflow optimization, automation, and performance improvement.
- Prioritize and maintain enhancement requests, issue tracking, workflow documentation, and project materials, while providing recommendations and status updates to leadership.
- Support PBC operational workflows and collaborate with cross-functional partners when initiatives extend beyond departmental boundaries.
System Maintenance, Testing, and Implementation
- Coordinate testing activities for Epic upgrades, enhancements, workflow changes, and revenue cycle initiatives impacting PBC operations.
- Develop and execute test plans, test scripts, acceptance criteria, and regression testing documentation.
- Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) and workflow validation to ensure solutions meet business requirements and function as intended.
- Validate claim processing outcomes, workqueues, reports, claim edits, clearinghouse transactions, and operational workflows following implementation.
- Identify, document, and coordinate resolution of system issues, defects, and workflow concerns with Duke IT teams and vendors.
- Support implementation readiness, communication, training, and change management activities associated with system enhancements and upgrades.
Reporting and Technical Expertise
- Maintain advanced knowledge of PBC operations, including claims processing, accounts receivable follow-up, retro review, denial management, and revenue cycle workflows.
- Maintain expertise in Epic Professional Billing functionality, reporting tools, workqueues, claim edits, clearinghouse integrations, and related applications.
- Utilize reporting and analytical tools, including Epic Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, Tableau, Power BI, and Excel, to support operational decision-making and system optimization.
- Provide ad hoc reporting, system analysis, and technical consultation to leadership and project stakeholders.
- Stay current on Epic enhancements, revenue cycle technology, payer requirements, and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years’ experience equivalent to a degree
Experience
Work requires four years of related experience or possesses analytical skills to be able to trouble-shoot, identify issues and find solutions. Strong communication and documentation skills and a basic knowledge of billing systems requirements and programming. Strong data analysis skills.
